Must Have Witches and a Giveaway

I've been reading literature about vampires for a long time starting with Bram Stoker's Dracula when I was a tween. Back when I started reading about vampires they were evil, bloodsucking monsters. Over the years the vampire has evolved into romantic hero. I'll take my vampires however they are written. If it has a vampire in it, I'll read it. I may not like it much, but I will eventaully read it. Over the last several years I've branched out into reading anything with a paranormal element, but I've recently realized that I have not read many novels or series that have a witch as a main character.
My neglect has not been complete because I have read the following series, both of which I really enjoyed:

1) Tate Hallaway's Garnet Lacey series; and
2) Linda Wisdom's Hex Series.

Pretty pathetic!  I am sure that I have several witch-based series in my 600+ book TBR.  Nonetheless I am asking you for help: leave a comment recommending a series or novel that has a witch as a main character!

    I will definitely have to read the Hex series when I get a chance.

    The only witches series that I've read and liked was A Secret Circle by L. J. Smith, the same author of Vampire Diaries. Although, I found A Secret Circle to be better than Vampire Diaries was.

    I'm just starting to read The Hollows series by Kim Harrison. The first book in the series is Dead Witch Walking, seems to be looking good so far...

    Have you tried any of Yasmine Galenorn or Vicki Lewis Thompson. They have great wit that sometimes is a little snarky but very entertaining.

    Also Madelyn Alt, has a quite charming series with witches.

    Oh and of course Shirley Damsgaard is a simply ust read.

    I highly recommend, "The Elemental Witches" series by Anya Blast. It has fighting, romance, sex and laughter all wrapped up in a great story. Anya Blast tells a great story and writes terrific characters. I came across these books at my local library quite by accident, what a great accident it was.
    I enjoyed the witch stories and look forward to reading the Hex series when I get the chance.

    Kim Harrison's series has a witch as a main character and Kelley Armstrong has two books in her women of the other world series. Dime Store Magic & Industrial Magic. Either author is very good and for me both are auto buys.

    Mindy Klasky's Jane Madison series is very chick-lit-y and fun with plenty of library jokes (always something I enjoy). They're definitely worth checking out.

    I love Kim Harrison's Hollows series whose main character is an Earth witch named Rachel. I've also have enjoyed A Bewitching Mystery series by Madelyn Alt. You can also try a new series by Juliet Blackwell. The first book is Secondhand Spirits. It looks like it might be a cozy paranormal mystery but it is a little dark then a typical cozy.

    I've been looking forward to reading the Hex series and have the first one waiting on my kindle but paperback copies would be fun too.

    There have already been some really good ones listed, but there is also Kimberly Frost's Southern Witch series. I really enjoy Vicki Lewis Thompson's witches.

    If you want to try something different I would suggest what we would call a YA book these days namely The Witch of Blackpool Pond by Elizabeth George Speare. It was published about 1958 and is about historical feelings about witches.

    Don't know if this is available to buy anywhere but your library might have it.

    I would recommend Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman, it is one of my favourite all time books.

    I would highly recommned Lacey Weatherford's Of Witches and Warlocks series, it is fantastic. A wonderful love story, with lots of Chemistry and lots of sparks fly in the action.

    I would love to read the Hex Series.

    I would recommend Kim Harrisons The Hollows series, Rachel-the main character is very easy to enjoy. A YA one would be Cate Tiernans Sweep series, but they are short books. Also Cheyenne McCray, Tate Hallaway.

    I would recommend the YA series Witch Season by Jeff Mariotte and Michael Frost. Love witch stories but have not read the Hex series. I want to now!

    There are some fabulous suggestions here. In addition to Anya Bast Cheyenne McCray and Kim Harrison, I would definitely have to recommend Diana Pharaoh Francis' Bitter Night. It's a fairly new series that focuses on the Horngate Witches I can't wait for the second one.

    Another good on is Lilith Saintcrow's DANTE VALENTINE series - Working for the Devil. Granted, the magic is more necromancy than witch magic, but it's still pretty good.

    Another new seris that is just starting out is Ilona Andrews' EDGE series - On the Edge. I'm not really sure if the main characters are called witches, but they are magic-users.

    I would definitely recommend the Tate Halloway books,Garnet Lacey is a witch after my own heart & a great laugh.
    Kim Harrison's books are great too,I've read them all so far(well the ones published in the UK.
    Both authors have a liberal sprinkling of vampires in their stories as well as great witches.

    I would reccomend Joy Nash's Immortals Series, Chey McCray's Magic series, Christine Feehan's Seven Sisters series and the first Hollows book, Dead Witch Walking.
    Joy Nash also has a bo0ok out A Little Light Magic that is good too.

    I'd recommend Would-Be Witch the first book in Kimberly Frost's Southern Witches series. Also Shirley Damsgaard's Abby & Ophelia mystery series features witches.

    I whole-heartedly recommend you read the Otherworld series by Kelley Armstrong. A mix of supernatural beings is featured in each and they rotate as main characters in her books. Witches and warlocks are prominent in Dime Store Magic, Industrial Magic, and this year's book, Waking the Witch, which is scheduled for August publication.

    Probably a different genre than you are going for (comedic fantasy), but there are also Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels with the Three Witches- Granny Weatherwax (the Crone), Nanny Ogg (the Mother), and Margrat Garlick/Agne Nitt(the Maiden).

    Fritz Lieber's "Conjure Wife" is probably the classic witch novel.

    I always liked Elizabeth Hand's "Waking the Moon", which is more secret societies/Benandanti than witches per se, but still.

    There's also "Practical Magic" and "Witches of Eastwick" now that I think about it.

    One book I loved with a witch as a main character was Wise Woman by Philippa Gregory. It was a great book with tons of twists and turns.

    I just realized now, that I too haven't read that many books involving witches. Although I can think of one, aside from the Garnet Lacey series which you mentioned. The Night World series by L. J. Smith have witches in it. A few of the books have witches as main characters.

    Lois Greiman: Mayfair Witches (historical romance blended with paranormal romance)
    Kimberly Frost: Southern Witch series
    Kat Richardson: Greywalker series (debut author this year)
    Linda Robertson: Vicious Circle
    Urban Shaman by C.E. Murphy

    (and don't forget the Witches from Discworld: Wyrd Sisters and Witches Abroad by Terry Pratchett)

    Hopefully that's a couple of original ideas. so many more, but I just can't think of them at the moment :(
