Seanan McGuire / Mira Grant Giveaway

I'm a huge fan of Seanan McGuire's writing. In case you don't know Seanan writes the October Daye Urban Fantasy series. As Mira Grant she pens the Newsflesh Trilogy novels (SF/zombies). To celebrate the release this week of Discount Armageddon the first novel in Seanan's new InCryptid series, I'm giving away some of Seanan's books!

Someone will win a Mass Market Paperback copy of Discount Armageddon, Mass Market Paperback copies of 5 October Daye novels, and signed Mass Market Paperback copies of Feed and Deadline.  Two other folks will each win a copy of Discount Armageddon.   Follow the requirements in The Giveaway section below to enter.

Update with a note from Seanan:
"Good luck to everyone who enters, and I hope you'll enjoy this book as much as I enjoyed writing it, minus the insomnia and the dark muttering about how I should run away and join the circus."

Discount Armageddon
InCryptid 1
DAW, March 6, 2012
Mass Market Paperback and eBook, 368 pages

Ghoulies. Ghosties. Long-legged beasties. Things that go bump in the night... The Price family has spent generations studying the monsters of the world, working to protect them from humanity-and humanity from them. Enter Verity Price. Despite being trained from birth as a cryptozoologist, she'd rather dance a tango than tangle with a demon, and is spending a year in Manhattan while she pursues her career in professional ballroom dance. Sounds pretty simple, right? It would be, if it weren't for the talking mice, the telepathic mathematicians, the asbestos supermodels, and the trained monster-hunter sent by the Price family's old enemies, the Covenant of St. George. When a Price girl meets a Covenant boy, high stakes, high heels, and a lot of collateral damage are almost guaranteed. To complicate matters further, local cryptids are disappearing, strange lizard-men are appearing in the sewers, and someone's spreading rumors about a dragon sleeping underneath the city...

Someone has kidnapped the sons of the regent of the Undersea Duchy of Saltmist. To prevent a war between land and sea, Toby must find the missing boys and prove the Queen of the Mists was not behind their abduction. 1. Who are some of your favorite Urban Fantasy novelists or novels?

I'm not a huge fan of Urban Fantasy, but the two authors I do follow are Laura Anne Gilman and her Cosa Nostradamus novels, and Jim Butcher. I've met precious few UF fans who don't like Jim Butcher, and many others besides...

  2. Damn, why did you have to ask me about favorite authors and novels. I'll keep it short, or try to:

    Dresden Files - Jim Butcher
    Kate Daniels - Ilona Andrews
    Armageddon Bound - Tim Marquitz
    October Daye - Seanan McGuire
Joe Pitt Casebooks - Charlie Huston
Connor Grey - Mark del Franco
    Elemental Assassin - Jennifer Estep
    Charlie Madigan - Kelly Gay

    I'll leave it at that.

Anyways, enter me for the full entries:

  3. I already have all those fabulous books, (but not signed copies!), so don't enter me. However, by the previous sentence, you can see that Seanan/Mira is one of my favorites. ;) I have SO many favorites, and Qwill, YOU keep making that list longer! (Good Qwill, good! LOL!)
Just off the top of my not-caffeinated-enough-yet head: Ben Aaronovich, Jim Butcher, Stacia Cane, Kelly Gay, Kim Harrison, Nicole Peeler, Trent Jamieson, Allison Pang, Jenn Bennett... The list could go on and on... But not right now - I just heard the coffee pot 'ding' to announce its ready!

  4. WOW what a great contest. I too own most of the books above, however, signed copies are always nice, and that way I can re-giveaway my slightly used copies.
My favorite urban fantasy authors....well the short list would have included Mira Grant, but here are some others:
    Ilona Andrews-Kate Daniels series
    Datoka Banks
J.J Westendarp (great up and coming indie author)
    Kelley Armstrong
    Sophie Littlefield -Cassandra Dollar trilogy
I could go on and on and on, but those are the ones that I could think of this early in the morning
    +1 for being a follower

  5. Well, I'm going to repeat some names, which are Jim Butcher, Kelly Gay, Kim Harrison, Dakota Banks, Kelley Armstrong, DN Simmons...I'll stop here. LOL

In fact, I'm currently reading Discount Armageddon *rightnow*. So it's safe to say that *she* is my fav UF author. And I love how different all her series are. Which makes you feel like she is 3 different very talented, fantastic authors b/c the tone of each series is so different and authentic.

I'd be gracious and allow someone else the chance to win these books, but I'd love just one signed one, any one is fine ;)

  35. Glad I saw this today. I had no clue they were the same writer. Will have to look up her Mira Grant books.

I like Patricia Brigg's and Ilona Andrews series. (And all the ones listed by Samantha R. as well.) I would classify Jeaniene frost as more prarnormal romance than UF though.

  43. I haven't read as much UF as I'd like. I'm trying to branch out, but it mostly sits on my wishlists currently. I read LKH before she decided to forgo plot for the chance to live out her sexual fantasies. Does that count? I recently read Eyes to See by Joseph Nassise which I really enjoyed. Can't wait for his next one. And so many on my need-to-read list; Kevin Hearne, Jennifer Estep, Patricia Briggs (I've read her straight fantasy and enjoyed it), MLN Hanover, etc. So many. Even Jim Butcher. Saw the TV series, haven't read him yet. Will likely read his Codex Alera series first as I do lean more heavily to the traditional fantasy.
