Tuesday Musings and a Crafty Giveaway - October 19, 2010

The oddest thing happened to me today. I walked into a bookstore, looked around, and left without buying books. That's not a usual occurrence. It is highly unusual actually. I hope to visit another bookstore later today to see if I can find my book buying mojo.

I do recommend that you pick up the YA novel Nightshade by Andrea Cremer, which is out today. Yes, I read a YA. And, yes, I really enjoyed it. I'll have a review of Nightshade for you in the next few days. I will now probably be adding YAs to my monthly new release list in their own section. Really, stranger things have happened (see not buying books above).

All that aside, it's time for another giveaway. The lovely people from Quirk Books gave me a cute little Witch Craft patch when I visited their booth at New York Comic Con. So I'm giving away the patch and 2 Quirk books.

(April 2008)

This unique craft book contains more than 25 patterns for zombies, ninjas, Vikings, vampires, aliens, robots, and even Death himself. Each easy-to-follow pattern is presented with step-by-step diagrams, hilarious commentary, and full-color photographs of the creatures in their natural environments. Plus each pattern is ranked according to difficulty so that even beginners can share in the fun.

The scary-cute photographs, accessible text, and illustrated patterns are sure to be a hit with indie crafters, angsty teens, and hip moms everywhere.

  1. I enjoy making ornaments out of yarn and adding clothes and accessories. I've been making them for years and I give them to people for Christmas.

  6. I haven't done anything crafty in a long time, so I don't know about "favorite", but...
I used to loooooove to cross-stitch. (Hard to do w/cats!)
And for a couple years I was making some pretty good hemp jewelry. (Again w/ the cats!)
I like to make cards & scrapbook pages when I'm at my sister's house, too. (I think she may own just about everything by Stampin' Up and Cricut! LOL)

  11. I used to do a lot of cross-stitch before I developed carpal tunnel. That kinda slows you down. But I'd love to get back to crochet work.

  13. My favorite craft is a toss-up between sewing and ceramics (just painting, I don't mess with plaster, etc.). I want to crochet, though. When I was young my grandma taught me, but I don't think I remember 20+ years later. I have this feeling it would be really calming.

I'm a follower, of course, and added this contest in to this week's roundup: http://vampirebookclub.net/contest-roundup-vampires-werewolves-and-halloween/
